Motivation letter for Master in Maritime Operations and Management

Dear Sir/Madam,

Certainly, the EU and UK not only leads the world in maritime trade, but it is also the hub of innovation and modern technology in the maritime industry, and that is my main motivation for pursuing a master’s degree program in Maritime Operations and Management run by City University London. After researching the program’s information, I am extremely impressed particularly with courses on operational and managerial subjects in the maritime industry.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from University of Trieste (Universita degli studi di Trieste) from the department of Engineering and Architecture, where I was consistently ranked among the top students in my class. Following graduation, I worked for almost six years as a Service engineer and in naval architecture. During my tenure(I was focused on finding creative solutions that involved starting with calculating strength, ship drawings, selecting materials, planning the process of production, determining ship hydrostatics and stability, and working with sandwich structures and fiberglass materials. Nevertheless, I have gained useful experience with managing workforce and working schedules, as well as optimizing work in relation to the customer requirements. This experience incented me to improve my work and acquire more knowledge. Although I have gained some professional experience in the field, I still need to further develop the managerial skills which are so important for my professional goals.

My professional goal is to further develop leadership and management skills in the context of managing maritime activities, and I feel that this graduate program is an excellent place to attain my professional goals. After looking through your curriculum, I am particularly interested into three courses: Philosophy of Science, Scientific Approach to Complex Problems and Quality and Risk Management. I am believe that these and other courses will help me in my future career.

I think that most of my skills, interests and abilities that I mentioned above show my suitability to attend and graduate from this master program, but I would like to mention few more values I have. I am very open-minded and have a profound wish to learn, instill values, to grow and develop my personal and professional goals.

I would like to thank you for the time and effort you invested in consideration of my application. Please feel free to contact me if there is anything else I should provide to you.

I look forward to your positive response and I am fully prepared and keen to become a student of the City University London.
